Excellence in concrete design and construction was celebrated at the Irish Concrete Society’s Awards Evening, which took place on the 29th of March
Church of Oak Distillery
We won the Building award and Overall award for the Church of Oak Distillery project at the Irish Concrete Society’s 42nd Annual Awards in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin.
Chosen from a total of 14 Building Category entries and 26 entries for the Overall Award, the jury stated that “The Church of Oak Distillery stands as a landmark restoration and adaptive reuse of the historic Ballykelly Mills, positioned along the Grand Canal in Monasterevin, Co. Kildare. This transformation exemplifies a sensitive balance between contemporary sustainable construction and the preservation of the site’s rich industrial heritage.”
Additionally, it was noted that “The design approach carefully integrates modern interventions within the existing fabric, with concrete playing a pivotal role in both structural performance and architectural expression. The project showcases a refined palette of concrete finishes, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship while reinforcing the authenticity of the historic structure.”
Also mentioned was the “seamless integration of concrete in preserving original building elements, ensuring continuity between past and present. Architectural fair-faced concrete, combined with a commitment to lower-carbon materials, highlights the material’s versatility—simultaneously enhancing the aesthetic language of the intervention while upholding sustainable principles. The result is a compelling dialogue between old and new, where materiality, texture, and form celebrate both the mill’s legacy and its contemporary rebirth.”

Dublin Port Greenway
In addition to winning the Overall award for Church of Oak Distillery at the Irish concrete society awards last Saturday, Kilsaran were highly commended in the Infrastructure Category as a major supplier for the The Dublin Port Greenway project.
The jury stated that The Dublin Port Greenway “deserves mention and is a great public amenity 2 km in length that opens access to Dublin Port. Designed and executed well with concrete seating and set down area installed to enjoy the stunning views along the route (Tolka Estuary), the panel of judges were greatly impressed by “the craftsmanship and the level of finish achieved. Most specifically the boarded concrete finish achieved and its consistency along the length of the greenway.
