Retarded/Delayed set admixtures are designed to delay the cement hydration cycle of the concrete.  The addition of the admixture increases the setting time of the concrete, the concrete mix can be designed to be retarded for a period of 1 hour up to a couple of days depending on specific project requirements. Typically, retarded concrete is used in warm conditions to counter for the rapid hardening of the concrete during transporting and placing of the concrete.
