Kilsaran EWI & ICF Solutions
Upgrading your home is a major decision and choosing the right insulation and render system shouldn’t be complicated. At Kilsaran, we’ve spent over 15 years delivering high-performance “External Wall Insulation” (EWI) and “Insulated Concrete Formwork” (ICF) system’s across Ireland, combining proven technology, trusted partnerships, and local expertise.
This page is designed to guide you, step-by-step, through what EWI and ICF are, how they benefit your home, how to access SEAI grants, and how our national network of merchants and installers can support you from enquiry to completion.
What Is External Wall Insulation (EWI)?
External Wall Insulation is one of the most effective ways to improve the energy efficiency, comfort, and appearance of your home. It involves fixing high-performance insulation boards to the exterior of your walls and finishing them with a durable, weather-resistant render.
Choose from a wide palette of colours and finishes to create a fresh, modern façade. The result is a home that feels warmer, looks better, and performs to modern energy standards, without losing any internal space.
What Is ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork)?
If you’re building a new home or extension, Insulated Concrete Formwork offers a fully insulated structural system from day one. ICF walls are formed by stacking lightweight insulated blocks, which are then filled with concrete, creating a highly efficient, airtight structure with an exceptionally strong core.
Kilsaran’s ICF render systems are designed specifically for Irish conditions and deliver a seamless, long-lasting finish.
Why Choose Kilsaran?
Kilsaran is one of Ireland’s leading manufacturers of façade, mortar, and render solutions.
For EWI and ICF, we proudly supply Ceresit by HENKEL , a globally trusted system used throughout Europe — fully certified, rigorously tested, and approved by the SEAI for grant-supported projects.
For homeowners, this means:
A National Network of Merchants & Approved Installers

ClimaKrete is Kilsaran’s cutting edge range of low carbon concrete, engineered to reduce emissions without compromising on strength or durability.
By rethinking materials, optimising production, and using sustainable transport, ClimaKrete significantly lowers the environmental impact of every cubic metre poured.
Concrete plays a vital role in modern construction, forming the foundation of everything from homes and schools to roads, bridges, and major national infrastructure. However, conventional concrete has a significant environmental impact, as cement production, a key ingredient is responsible for around 8% of global CO₂ emissions.
Cement is the main source of carbon in concrete. ClimaKrete reduces this impact by replacing part of the cement with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) and using advanced admixtures to maintain performance.
Materials like GGBS, PFA, and limestone fillers are already proven and widely used in our concrete mixes. Kilsaran first introduced GGBS to structural concrete in Ireland in 2001.
We are also developing next-generation low-carbon concretes using calcined clays and geopolymers. While trials show strong potential, these materials are currently available only in small quantities, so they are not yet ready for large-scale commercial use.
Helps to reduce CO2 emissions when compared to traditional concrete.
Helps to meet Ireland's climate action targets
Supports sustainable development goals for both public and private projects
Most of the carbon footprint in concrete comes from cement : about 87% of it, according to the UK Institution of Civil Engineers.
At Kilsaran, we’re tackling this head-on:

ClimaKrete is Kilsaran’s innovative low-carbon concrete range, designed to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of construction projects while maintaining the strength and durability of traditional concrete.
ClimaKrete uses Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) such as GGBS, PFA, and limestone fillers to replace a portion of traditional cement, which is the main source of embodied carbon in concrete. This can reduce emissions by up to 50% compared to conventional mixes.
Yes. ClimaKrete meets all structural performance standards and is engineered to deliver the same trusted strength and durability as traditional concrete products
ClimaKrete is suitable for a wide range of applications including residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects. Our technical team can advise on the best mix for your specific needs.

CRM-204 LA Repair Concrete is a low-alkaline, shrinkage-reduced, cementitious repair
micro-concrete mortar designed for repairing damaged concrete structures. Suitable for both internal and external applications on vertical, horizontal, and overhead surfaces, CRM-204 LA RC offers a durable solution for restoring concrete elements. It complies with EN 1504-3 Class R4 for structural and non-structural repair, and provides excellent protection against carbonation and chlorides.
Product Application:
CRM-204 LA RC is ideal for use on suitably prepared concrete surfaces in various
applications:
• Structural repairs to beams, columns, and floors
• Restoration of bridges, tunnels, car parks, and other infrastructure
• Filling of voids, cracks, and honeycombing in concrete
• Repairing spalling concrete due to reinforcement corrosion
• Smoothing surface imperfections and providing a uniform finish
• Suitable for repairs by methods 3.1, 3.3, 4.4, 7.1, and 7.2 as set out in EN 1504-10
Product Use
Preparation: To prepare the repair area, begin by cutting back the edges to a minimum depth of 10 mm to avoid feather-edging and create a clean, square edge for a stronger bond. Break out the entire repair area to a depth of at least 10 mm, ensuring that all loose or damaged concrete is removed. Clean the surface thoroughly, removing dust, debris, and any unsound or contaminated material such as plaster, oil, paint, grease, corrosion deposits, or algae. If breaking out is not necessary, roughen the surface and remove any laitance by light scabbling or abrasive blasting to provide a sound, clean substrate.
Inspect the steel reinforcement in the repair area and remove any corroded steel. Clean
the exposed steel to a bright metal finish using abrasive blasting, ensuring that all rust
and corrosion products are removed. Wash the cleaned steel with clean water to
eliminate any remaining corrosion particles. Once cleaned, prime the exposed steel
thoroughly with an appropriate primer, ensuring complete coverage, and allow it to dry as
specified.
• Pre-mixed product only requiring the addition of water
• Pre-mixed on component eliminates inaccuracy of site mixing
• Low Alkali Reactive Particles
• Low permeability to CO2 and chlorides
• High build characteristics
• Chloride free
