The Kilsaran Road Surfacing Team is working with Balfour Beatty Ireland, reconstructing and improving taxilanes and aircraft stands as part of the DAA’s program of airport campus enhancement, which will facilitate the growth in passenger numbers that Dublin Airport is currently experiencing.
Our road surfacing team constructed these areas consisting of the placement of the stone subbase, and a pavement consisting of 220mm of bituminous material on 300mm of Cement Bound Granular Material (CBGM).
The photographs show the Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) surface course being placed in echelon which ensures that all longitudinal joints in the surface course are hot, enhancing the durability of the final surface. This phase of the works involved placing 6500 sq. m of surface course in one shift.

Kilsaran are also supplied Lean Mix Concrete and PQ Concrete to this project in the Airport.

Kilsaran Roadsurfacing and Contracting are proud to have undertaken the significant infrastructure development work on the Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) recently.

The main contractor on the Cherrywood Infrastructure Project is a joint venture between John Craddock Ltd and Jons Civil Engineering Ltd working for Hines, the Houston based owner,
developer and asset manager of the SDZ. Development of roads,
cycle ways, carparks and recreational areas in this SDZ necessitated the production and installation of over 40,000 tonnes of asphalt. All pavements have been completed to surface course level. This development is unique in that the Local
Authority required completed infrastructure to be in place
prior to the development of any building work, which is due to commence shortly on this 390-acre masterplanned development site.

Located in a woodland setting and bordered with mountains, the new office development had a requirement for a Sustainable Urban Drainage system that would manage surface water run-off on site so that flooding of the surrounding area did not occur.

As a solution to this, Mitchell and Associates specified 4,000 square meters of Kilsaran’s permeable paving, Clima-Pave, for the design of the office car park. This would allow surface water to pass through the oversized joints of the paving and down through a change of aggregates below. These aggregates contain no fines to allow for a 32% void capacity, and this ratio, as well as the use of Coarse Graded Aggregates, allows the water to flow through the system and be cleaned, thereby reducing pollution and the risk of flooding.

This system is very robust and it is designed for one hundred year storms and thirty years climate change. Kilsaran’s Clima-Pave and Signature Paving ranges offered the Landscape Architects Mitchell and Associates a wide choice of sizes, colours, and textures to choose from so that they could achieve a finish that complimented the office building, which was designed by RKD Architects.
